Hip, Hip, Hooray! It’s Disability Awareness Day!

In the garden this morning we had a visitor from Paraquad, Kim, who discussed with us what it means to have a disability and how they affect our everyday lives. We were able to experience what it is like to have a variety of disabilities from using wheelchairs, simulating cataracts, and utilizing hand and leg splints. The campers learned how hard it is to work in the garden when living with one of these conditions as well as how to approach helping individuals who may need assistance with one of these disabilities.










In the kitchen this morning, campers made a beef and vegetable stir fry, seasoned rice, and a scrumptious fruit salad. These foods were specifically prepared for Saint Louis University’s Campus Kitchen which is an organization on campus that takes donated food and prepares meals from them for individuals in need.



After cooking, campers ventured off to the actual Campus Kitchen to deliver the meals they created as well as take a private tour of the mass production kitchen where the organization makes their meals each day. To cool off the warm summer week, our last pit stop was SLU’s Simon Recreation Center pool, SLUruba-equipped with palm trees, a sand volleyball court, and even salt water pools!!!

We can’t wait to see what the last day of camp has in store for us. And look out parents, the appetizer party will be filled delicious Korean style food!
