It was a beautiful day in the garden this morning! Campers participated in Harvest Wednesdays. Harvesting is the act of gathering mature crops from the gardens or fields. The specific plants campers harvested ranged from turnips and green beans to basil and mint leaves. We even were taught how to weave our own lavender “wands” which are great to use as air fresheners 🙂
Back in the kitchens, campers worked on their Strawberry Napoleon’s and Chicken Pate (chicken liver) Meatloaf. In the afternoon, Saint Louis University’s finest pastry chef in town, Chef Todd, served as our special guest this week and taught us all about the art of truffle making…YUM!
Our Bocuse D’Or competition was fully underway today as well! Our secret panel of judges evaluated each team on their sweet and savory tarts as well as their strawberry Napoleons. So far, Kitchen 1 (or Team Fish) is in the lead. The other kitchens closely follow so this competition is really anyone’s game! The final results of our week long competition will be announced at our parent appetizer party so be sure to show your support for your camper’s team and join us!
