Monday July 11

The campers started their first day of camp exploring the garden and planting potatoes! They then made their way up to the kitchen for lunch where they made homemade personal pizzas, fresh fruit salad, and a tossed salad with a homemade vinaigrette. After Nutrition ed. and physical education, they prepared their lunches for the field trip on Tuesday. Campers made black bean brownies, fruit salad, and pasta salad to enjoy while visiting Marcoot Jersey Creamery.


Tuesday July 12

Field trip day! Today we drove to Marcoot Jersey Creamery. The campers got to tour the farm and learn how cheese is made. They stood in the building where the cows are milked twice daily to learn about the milking process. They then made their way across the farm to see the pigs and pet the baby cows. Once the tour was over, they sampled fresh white cheddar cheese curds and vanilla ice cream! Before making our way back to St. Louis, we stopped for a picnic lunch at Patriots park. After an exciting morning the campers got back in the kitchen where they made natural flavored buttercream frosting to use as a dip for pretzels. It was a very successful day exploring the farm and the kitchen!
